Class Descriptions"Vinyasa" is a Sanskrit term and is translated as "the linking of body movement with the breath". Throughout the practice of vinyasa yoga you will practice asana (postures) and pranayama (prana: vital energy or breath, yama: to control) and learn to quiet the mind, focus on the breath and find a way to achieve balance and ease in your body while building strength and flexibility.
Class Descriptions:
Beginner Basics: This class is appropriate for those new to yoga. This class will allow students to become familiar with the vinyasa tradition, the style of yoga taught at the studio. Sun salutations A & B, standing and seated postures will be taught as well as awareness of breath (pranayama) and bandhas (internal locks). Modifications of postures will also be taught.
Gentle Yoga: Appropriate for beginners, this gentle class will allow students to become familiar with yoga postures (asana) and breathing techniques (pranayama).
All Levels: Taught in the vinyasa tradition, this class is appropriate for experienced beginners to the most advanced practitioner. We will begin the class with a basic vinyasa flow and build upon it making it more challenging as we go. Modifications are offered and encouraged.
Intermediate: Taught in the vinyasa tradition, this class is geared towards experienced (a year or more of consistent practice) to intermediate/advanced students. Arm balances and inversions will be taught in this class. The room will be warm. Be prepared to work.
Power: Taught in the vinyasa tradition, this class is geared towards intermediate to advanced students. Build strength and flexibility through some of the most powerful asanas such as arm balances, inversions and backbends, that yoga offers. The room will be warm. Be prepared to work.
Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series: The first or primary series, is called Yoga Chikitsa. Yoga Chikitsa, which means yoga therapy, realigns the spine, detoxifies the body, and builds strength, flexibility and stamina. The series of about 75 poses takes an hour and a half to two hours to complete, beginning with sun salutations A & B (surya namaskara A and surya namaskara B) and moving on to standing poses, seated poses, inversions and backbends before relaxation. This can be a challenging practice and moves fairly quickly
Rasamaya Yoga®: Taught in the vinyasa tradition, this class is appropriate for beginners. Rasamaya® translates as "fluid". Classes usually have a theme based on your chakra system (energy centers in the body). The instructor will lead a practice focused on the energy center chosen for the class building from warm ups to standing postures and seated postures.
